Catholic Recipe: Frankfurter Sandwich Rolls


  • 1 pound frankfurters, cut in 1/2-inch slices
  • 3/4 pound sharp cheese, cut in 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup minced scallions
  • 1/3 cup chopped stuffed olives
  • 3 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 12 frankfurter buns, split

Here's a recipe that makes it easy to pre-make the hot dogs with all the fixings.


Combine franks, cheese, scallions, olives, eggs, chili sauce, and mayonnaise; mix thoroughly. Open buns; fill each with about 1/3 cup of frank mixture. (Bun will close only partially.) Wrap each bun in heavy-duty or broiler foil, twisting ends tightly. Store in refrigerator until ready to use. Before serving, place wrapped buns on grill for 15 to 20 minutes.
