Catholic Recipe: Bread and Cheese Puff

    INGREDIENTS

  • 8 slices buttered bread
  • 1/2 pound sliced Cheddar cheese (8 slices)
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • dash Tabasco

This simple recipe calls for the basics: bread, American cheese, and eggs.

DIRECTIONS

Place 4 slices of bread on bottom of shallow baking dish, cutting to fit. Cover bread with half the cheese; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Repeat. Combine remaining ingredients; pour over bread and cheese. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes or until top is golden brown, puffed, and shiny. Serve at once. Makes 6 servings.
