Catholic Recipe: White Sauce (Thick)

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • few grains pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon grated onion (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)

This is the basic white sauce recipe, with a thick consistency.

DIRECTIONS

Melt butter or margarine in saucepan over low heat. Blend in flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over low heat until smooth and thickened. Makes 2 cups. If desired, 1 teaspoon grated onion and/or 1/4 teaspoon paprika may be added.
