Catholic Recipe: Grandstand Grill

    INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 medium sweet onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 4 large hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

This recipe calls for stacking the beef patties but you can cook them separately to cut down on the calories and to stretch the meat.

DIRECTIONS

1. Prepare the grill. 2. Divide the beef into eight flat round patties. 3. Peel and cut the onion into four equal slices. Rinse, trim, and cut the tomato into four equal slices. 4. Arrange an onion slice and a tomato slice on 4 of the beef patties. Sprinkle with the cheese. Place the remaining 4 patties over the top and seal the edges all the way around. 5. Grill the hamburger packets to taste.

Buns 1. Split the buns in half and arrange on the grill to toast. 2. In a small bowl, blend together the ketchup, the mustard, the Worcestershire sauce, and the pickle relish. 3. Spread the sauce over the buns and top with the hamburger packets.
