WORLD SOUL
The pantheistic theory of an intelligent, animating, indwelling principle of the universe. It is conceived either as its organizing or integrating cause, or as the source of its activity, on the analogy of the human soul as the principle of life in a human being. It is familiar in the philosophy of Stoicism, Neo-Platonism, and the immanentism of Giordano Bruno (1548-1600).
