STOCKINGS

Liturgical vestments worn by bishops at solemn pontifical celebrations of Mass. The stockings are of woven silk and conform in color to the vestments. They are worn with low-heeled shoes called sandals, also of the liturgical color appropriate for the occasion. Stockings and sandals are now optional.
