SOCINIANISM

The doctrine held by followers of Lelio Sozzini, or Socinus (1525-62), a priest of Siena, and of his nephew, Fausto Sozzini (1539-1604). The ideas first achieved importance in Poland. Among its main tenets are a denial of the Trinity, the Virgin Birth, and the Redemption. Socinianism is the modern forerunner of Unitarianism.
