PEACE PLATE or TABLET
Also called the osculatorium. It is a plaque made of wood, metal, or ivory decorated with inscriptions and provided with a handle. It conveyed the kiss of peace from the celebrant to the faithful, each member receiving it in turn. In medieval times at a Nuptial Mass, the kiss of peace was received in this way by the bridegroom and then transmitted by him to the bride.
