PATARINES
Also called Patarelli, they were a Catholic party in the early Middle Ages that supported the popes in their struggles for celibacy of the clergy and against simony. They ceased to exist after the death in 1075 of their leader, Erlembald. Later on the name came to be used of the Cathari, and other heretics, condemned by the Third Lateran Council in 1179.
