OBEDIENTIARIES
Lesser monastic officials appointed more or less permanently by their superiors with extensive powers in their designated departments. In most monasteries they included the cellarer, bursar, or procurator, sacristan, cantor, precentor, infirmarian secretary, guest master, novice master, and kitchener. Certain others, such as readers, meal servers, and hebdomadaries, received weekly appointments.
