OBADIAH
Unknown author of the shortest prophetic book in the Old Testament, only one chapter of twenty-one verses in length. He condemns the Edomites harshly for their participation in the suppression of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar and offers no hope that Yahweh will forgive a treacherous people. "For the slaughter, for the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you and you will vanish forever" (Obadiah v. 10). In contrast, Obadiah promises that Yahweh will restore the glory of the new Israel and its power will reflect the sovereignty of Yahweh.
