NAOMI

A Judaean woman who moved to the country of Moab with her husband and two sons. But tragedy struck the family and Naomi's husband and sons died. She returned to Judaea and Ruth, wife of one of Naomi's sons, came with her (Ruth 1). She sought a job in the fields gleaning corn, hoping that she would find another husband (Ruth 2). Now Boaz, the landowner for whom Ruth worked, was a kinsman of Naomi, and that resourceful woman worked out a plan to get Boaz interested in Ruth (Ruth 3). In due course they married and Naomi was nurse to their child (Ruth 4). Jesse and David were both members of the family line descending from Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 4:21).
