MINOR BASILICA

A title given by the Pope to certain churches remarkable for antiquity, historical associations, or importance as centers of worship yet not qualifying as major basilicas. Examples of minor basilicas are St. Lawrence in Rome; Mission Dolores in San Francisco; and St. Anne de Beaupré in Quebec.
