MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER
A program of several days' intercommunication between married couples to enrich their personal marital relationships. Marriage Encounter began in Spain through the efforts of Father Gabriel Calvo, between 1958 and 1962, co-operating with Diego and Fina Bartoneo and other married couples. From Barcelona in 1962 the movement spread rapidly throughout the Catholic world. There are variant interpretations of the movement, notably on a doctrinal understanding of such issues as contraception.
