LOCUS CLASSICUS
Classical source, often used of biblical passages that are most cited by the Church's teaching authority as the basis in revelation for certain Catholic doctrines. Thus "You are Peter," addressed to Simon Peter by Christ, is a locus classicus for the papal primacy (Matthew 16:18).
