LEAVENED BREAD
The bread for the Eucharist made of fermented dough, commonly used by the Catholic Christians of the Eastern Rite except the Armenians. Natural yeast is used as the leaven. (Etym. Latin levamen, alleviation, "that which raises," from levare, to raise.)
