LABARUM
The imperial standard of Emperor Constantine and also his military standard after his victory at the Milvian Bridge in 312. It was a purple banner bearing in Greek "In this sign [the Cross] you shall conquer," suspended from a long gilded spear. At the top of the spear was the chi-rho, symbol or monogram of Christ. Fifty soldiers were entrusted with the care of this standard.
