JUDGES, BOOK OF
The seventh book of the Bible, thus called because it relates the events surrounding the temporary leaders of Israel called "Judges." This represents the period between the death of Joshua and the days of Samuel. The purpose of the author is especially to illustrate the fact of divine Providence, that apostasy is always punished and that loyalty to God is always rewarded.
