GREY NUNS
The popular name of the Sisters of Charity in various countries. Best known are the Sisters of Charity of the General Hospital of Montreal, founded by Mme. d'Youville in 1739. Besides the three standard vows, the members promised to devote themselves to the relief of human suffering. Among other branches the most notable is the Grey Nuns of the Cross founded at ottawa in 1845. In Germany a group is called the Grey Sisters of St. Elizabeth.
