GALLIO
Roman proconsul of Achaia. The Jews brought Paul before his tribunal, accusing him of offending their religious laws, but Gallio refused to hear their complaint (Acts 18:12-17). Disagreement over religion, he maintained, was not subject to legal judgment. Even when they beat the synagogue president in front of the courthouse, he ignored them.
