EXCARDINATION
The perpetual release of a cleric from the jurisdiction of one bishop to another. It is not effective unless he receives absolute and permanent letters affiliating him with another dioceses or vicariate. To be valid, the release must be signed by a bishop. Acceptance of a residential benefice in another diocese calls for excardination. A religious making perpetual profession is likewise excardinated from his diocese.
