ENERGUMEN
A person possessed by the devil. The term was also applied to person s who were mentally deranged. Whether possessed or not, they were treated with special pity and care and, when necessary, exorcised at Mass. If not violent, they were admitted to Holy Communion. But they were debarred from ordination even after being cured.
