DONATION OF CONSTANTINE

A document forged in the eighth or ninth century, allegedly written by Emperor Constantine (c. 275-337), gibing the Pope and the Church great possessions and a political privilege. It was never considered by the popes as the source of their power either in civil jurisdiction or in spiritual authority.
