DISTINCTIVE SIGN
A term applied to the sacramental character insofar as it distinguishes the baptized from the nonbaptized, the confirmed from the nonconfirmed, and the ordained from the nonordained. It therefore identifies them before God and characterizes them according to each respective sacrament.
