DISPUTED QUESTION

An unsettled or debatable problem in philosophy or theology; a proposition that is seriously affirmed and denied by opposing parties. In scholasticism, disputed question (Quaestiones Disputatae) were the subject of frequent disputation and formed a whole body of medieval sacred literature, e.g., among the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas.
