DIADEM
In ecclesiastical art a crown or circular headband symbolic of sanctity. It may be either part of a picture or statue or be placed on the completed images as a token of special veneration. (Etym. Latin diadema, royal headdress; from Greek diadema; from diadein, to bind around.)
