DEI VERBUM

Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation of the Second Vatican Council. Its five sections treat of divine revelation itself; the transmission of divine revelation through the faith of believers and the custody of the church; Sacred Scripture as God's inspired word to be interpreted under the Church's guidance; the Old Testament as fulfilled in and also shedding light on the New Testament as the completion of God's self-disclosure and the importance of Sacred Scripture in the life of the Church. Treated at length is the development of doctrine, which means the Church's ever deeper and clearer understanding of what God has once and for all revealed to the human race (November 18, 1965).
