CYRENE

The chief city of Cyrenaica, which would later become part of Libya. Simon of Cyrene was pressed into service by the soldiers on Good Friday to help Jesus carry his cross to Golgotha (Mark 15:21). Another Cyrenian mentioned in the New Testament was Lucius of Cyrene, one of the active prophets and teachers in the Church at Antioch (Acts 13:1).
