CLEOPAS

One of two men traveling on foot from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They were talking about the strange reports of Jesus' resurrection the day before, when he joined them, but they did not know him. He accompanied them to Emmaus, explaining at length the story of the Messiah's life and mission. Fascinated by his account, they persuaded him to remain with them for the evening meal. Not till he broke the bread and said the blessing did they recognize him, but he vanished immediately. In their excitement they immediately returned to Jerusalem and told their story to the eleven Apostles (Luke 24:13-35).
