CELL

1. a small room in a convent or monastery; 2. the separate individual room of a monk or nun; 3. the cottage of a Carthusian or the habitation of a hermit. It is usually furnished with a bed, table, chair, books, and other necessities required for decent living; 4. the name given to an outlying monastic house dependent on a great abbey. (Etym. Latin cella, small room, hut.)
