BLACK

A liturgical color symbolizing mourning. It was formerly used at all requiem Masses and at services on Good Friday to express grief at the death of the Savior. At the offices of the dead it is an expression of sorrow and sympathy. It is never permissible to use a black veil before the tabernacle or in the exposed presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
