AVERROISM
The philosophy of the Moslem writer Averroës (1126-98) and his followers. His commentaries on Aristotle (384-322 B.C.) were used, but also criticized, by Albert the Great (1200-80) and St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-74). The points of Averroism mostly opposed by Catholic scholars were: the co-eternity of the created world, the numerical identity of the intellect in all human beings, the theory that a proposition may be philosophically true but theologically false.
