AUTOTELIC
Term applied to any absorbing activity in which a person engages for its own sake (Greek autos, self, and telos, end), such as philosophical speculation or beholding a work of art. From a Catholic viewpoint no human action should be totally autotelic; since everything should somehow be referred to God.
