ASCENT OF MOUNT CARMEL
The earliest work of St. John of the Cross (1542-91) on the spiritual life, written between 1578 and 1580. Its intended readers are persons interested in the direction of souls. Its theme is the necessary purification of will, mind, and senses for union with God.
