ABYSSINIAN CHURCH
Popular name of the Catholic Church in Ethiopia following the Ethiopian Rite, with its metropolitan bishop in Addis Ababa. Its origins go back to the fourth century, when Christianity was first introduced into Abyssinia by St. Frumentius and Edesius of Tyre. The liturgy and canon law are adapted from the traditions of the old Church of Abyssinia.
