Fortnight for Freedom Variations

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | Jun 26, 2012

It is interesting and encouraging that so many different groups are running their own Fortnight for Freedom programs around the country, some of them going beyond the USCCB materials, but often in the same spirit. I’ll single out just three examples that we’ve been alerted to here at CatholicCulture.org:

  • Festival for Freedom: This is a special program of prayer, adoration, and instruction running from June 21st through July 4th at the Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua, New York. For details see: festivalforfreedom.com.
  • Transcendental Media Group: These Catholic filmmakers have put together a video entitled I am an American, and I believe in God. Stop HHS.
  • Saint Peter’s Fellowship: This group of Catholics in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City has put together an impressive website at www.fortnightforfreedomokc.com . The site includes links to an impressive printable devotional booklet approved by Archbishop Coakley.

Moreover, the USCCB offers a list of activities in most dioceses across the country.

May these initiatives and others like them awaken people of good will to the increasing threats to religious liberty in the United States and to the corresponding need we all have to make a deeper spiritual commitment to Catholic faith and life!
