 Off the Record

the unpaid informer

By Diogenes (articles ) | November 10, 2010 4:39 PM

Back in 2006, Mehmet Ali Agca offered to tell the world who gave him the order to shoot Pope John Paul II. But there was a catch: he wanted to be paid $6 million for that information. That didn’t seem like a very good deal, because the world had pretty much assumed, since that fateful day in May 1981, that the order came from somewhere in the Soviet-bloc secret-police establishment. Also, there were questions-- to put it mildly-- about the would-be assassin's credibility. Agca never got that multi-million-dollar book contract.

But now the man who says that he is a messenger from God, and that he and Pope John Paul II became “like Siamese twins,” and that he is prepared to hunt down Osama bin Laden (for a comparatively paltry $5 million), has made another sensational public announcement. The order to kill the Pope, he says, came from—are you ready—the Vatican.

Funny thing: This announcement is getting substantial media attention in certain countries of Eastern Europe: Russia and Bulgaria, for instance. Can’t imagine why.

Sounds a lot like the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, doesn't it? Wonder who will make the movie or will they just cut and paste over some of the scenes in both movies?

Am I reading something in it when they call Agca the "unsuccessful assasin [sic]"?
