no foul no harm

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Aug 30, 2010

A British gay-rights activist is pushing to lower the age of consent for sexual activity to 14. Peter Tatchell argues that the move would reduce the rate of criminal molestation of children.

You understand the reasoning, no doubt. If you raise the speed limit on the local highways to 100 mph, you’ll see a dramatic reduction in the number of people cited for speeding. Raise it again to 120 mph, and that number will drop again. The number of highway fatalities may rise, but that’s not your concern. Your job is to make the number of reported offenses go down, and if you succeed-- maybe you can even arrange a John Jay study to measure the statistical decline?-- you're a success.
