Off the Record

and here's to you, Bishop Robinson

By Diogenes (articles ) | April 28, 2010 4:34 PM

The irrepressible Bishop Geoffrey Robinson suggests a Church council to change teachings on sexuality, explaining that this is the only way to resolve the sex-abuse crisis.

Hang on there. The priests who molested children were violating Church teachings. If we change the teachings (leaving aside the delicate matter of how one goes about changing God's laws). how do we know they won't violate the new rules as well?

Ah, Bishop Robinson explains that priests who molested children didn't know they were violating their vows

Hmm.

If you really are so morally obtuse that you don't sense something wrong about raping boys, not even another ecumenical council is likely to get through.
