Rev. Barbie Doll

By Diogenes (articles ) | April 07, 2010 11:09 AM

The public has a right to know, and Religious News Service provides the facts:

With her careers as veterinarian, astronaut and U.S. president behind her, Barbie has at last found her true calling: as a second-career Episcopal priest.

The Rev. Barbie-- complete with appropriate vestments, sensible shoes, and a miniature Bible-- is a big Facebook personality, drawing 3,000 friends in a week. Which is a pretty good crowd, especially compared with attendance at the typical Episcopalian parish. But it makes you wonder: Is some nasty critic deliberately engaged in ridicule of Episcopalians? Nope.

The Rev. Julie Blake Fisher, an Episcopal priest in Kent, Ohio, created "Episcopal Priest Barbie High Church Edition" for a friend, the Rev. Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew, when she got her first pulpit assignment in Manlius, N.Y.

In other news, the Archbishop of Canterbury wonders whether the Catholic Church in Ireland is losing credibility.

Only black? Not pink? And, no, I don't mean rose.

    Isn't she already Presiding Bishop?

On the other hand, the Episcopalians have ordained a lot worse; they even made bishops out of guys like the twice-divorced, thrice-married Barry "Third Time's the Charm" Beisner out there in Northern California. Amd you have to believe that Barbie's sermons would be better than the Episcopal standard and a whole lot less heretical.

Apparently "High Church Edition" Barbie is committed to saying Requiem Masses, since she appears to have only black vestments. It's nice to know she's a traditionalist.
