not his field

By Diogenes (articles ) | Sep 23, 2009

Remember when Rick Warren asked Barack Obama when an unborn child acquired human rights, and the presidential candidate replied that the question was "above my pay grade?"

Now Obama has company. Asked whether a health-care reform bill should be amended to exclude abortion coverage, Cardinal Roger Mahony replied: "This is way beyond my field."

Now you might be thinking that a simple question-- should abortion coverage be excluded?-- is well within the competence of a prominent Catholic moralist. But that only shows that you don't understand a Catholic archbishop's job description. Cardinal Mahony informed the reporter: "My field is immigration."
