the gender gap
By Diogenes ( articles ) | Sep 04, 2008
You know (at least you ought to know, for the media has often told you so) that in American politics, abortion is a "women's issue," and candidates who oppose legal abortion will have trouble attracting women's votes. Because women are more likely than men to favor legal abortion, you see.
You know all that, right? You've been told so many times...
But as Yogi Berra put it, half the facts they tell you aren't true.
A new Gallup poll finds that 34% of American adults favor overturning the Roe v. Wade decision, while 52% oppose overturning it and 15% express no opinion.
OK, so what's the breakdown by gender?
Males: 34% for overturning Roe, 52% against, 14% no opinion.
Females: 33% for overturning, 51% against, 16% no opinion.
Wow. Some gender gap, huh?
