the single-issue voter

By Diogenes (articles ) | Feb 07, 2008

Are you curious to know how Ray Flynn (former Mayor of Boston, former US ambassador to the Holy See, former president of the Catholic Alliance, former president of Your Catholic Voice, current chairman of Catholic Citizenship) voted in the Massachusetts presidential primary on Super Tuesday?

"Sure, I’ll tell you who I voted for," Flynn told Boston Herald columnist Peter Gelzinis. "Hillary Clinton."

Hillary Clinton?!?

Now are you curious how a pro-life Catholic would explain that vote? You won't wait long:

I could give you plenty of reasons why, too, but the first one is the most important: Her husband gave me a job. And a pretty good one.

Oh. Other people think that way; they just usually aren't quite so candid.

“Hell,” Flynn chuckled, “I’d vote for you if you gave me a job."

This really throws me for a loop. I remember speaking with Ray Flynn at the Pro-Life Legal Defense Fund dinner a year or so back, and having an uncomfortable feeling that this guy wasn't a straight shooter.... Marian Walsh, John Rogers in Norfolk County are also turncoats. Sadly we have lost our footing in this state.....

I "could give you plenty of reasons why" I will trash his letters soliciting contributions for his organization-de-jour -- lamenting that the Catholic voter is still failing to elect pro-life candidates to office, "but the first one is most important": hypocrisy.

Sounds like the same moral thinking of Errol Flynn. It must run in the family!

That's what we call integrity in Massachusetts: when a politician's bought, he should stay bought.
