a dying breed

Look at it this way: If Dutch Christians catch the bishop's enthusiasm for condoms, pretty soon everyone in the country will be praying to Allah.

Another excellent opportunity for Rome to remove a Bishop who is, at the very least, "out there" and out of step with Church teaching. Removing a few just might, and I emphasize "might", cause a few of the others on the fringe to get their acts together....maybe

I think the dutch bishop needs to take Catechism I and study very hard and get perhaps a "d".

I might be less apprehensive about praying to "Allah" if "Allah" were defined as "Father", "Son", and "Holy Spirit". I don't believe Muslims acknowledge the Divinity of Christ. That would make it very difficult for any "Catholic" who takes his/her faith seriously to pray to a "god" who really isn't "God". Keep using the condoms and there won't be any Dutch Christians left.

The slope behind the bishop looks like quite a slippery plunge. I suppose he'll someday want us to kiss the noodly appendages of the Flying Spaghetti Monster in a spirit of ecumenism with our atheist brethren.

Would it make equal sense to suggest that Muslims should pray to "God"? Of course, but what would be the fun of that? To suggest it would likely result in ostracism from the august ranks of liberal bishops.
