Off the Record

asunder again

By Diogenes (articles ) | October 09, 2006 11:07 AM

In today's first reading, taken from St. Paul's letter to the Galatians, in the jaunty contemporary translation that sounds just like the way you and I ordinarily speak:

Am I now currying favor with human beings or God?

Back home after Mass, I scanned the newspaper headlines and learned that politicians are currying favor with human beings.

It's disgraceful, isn't it? The party kingpins chieftains leaders facilitators want people to vote along partisan lines, rather than just voting for the best human being-- in, say, the race for Congresshumanbeing.

An appeal from our founder, Dr. Jeffrey Mirus:

I am human being, hear me roar! In numbers too big to ignore!...etc. Sort of loses it flavor.

Why be bound by strict guidelines for interpretation? We need to be speaking to the people of today, in language they can understand. I submit the following: Am I now curry flavoring with human persons or God?
