what no one else will say

In a LA Times op-ed, a former priest asks the right question:

If you're celibate, as the Catholic Church already requires you to be, then what's the difference if you're gay or straight at heart?

The answer is given quite plainly in the Vatican Instruction: Homosexuality is a disorder.

No one else will say that these days. The psychiatric profession collapsed long ago; educators soon followed; the entertainment industry was always in the vanguard of change; now politicians have bowed to the pressure of public opinion. But the Catholic Church will tell the truth, in season and out of season.

Other societies and other eras took it for granted. But our society-- which is probably marked by more sexual dysfunction, more sex crime, more sexual obsession, and more sex-related misery than any other civilization in history-- has undertaken to rewrite the laws on healthy sexuality.

The priest-turned-sociologist from Tinseltown continues:

I hope that gay priests and their gay bishops will choose not to run or hide but instead, as some suggest, call a strike, a work stoppage.
