gender bender

By Leila (articles ) | April 30, 2003 4:25 PM

Diogenes, if you want the gut-wrenching background on the story of gender reassignment and transsexuality you must read As Nature Made Himby John Colapinto. This incredibly detailed book painstakingly follows the fraudulent doings of Dr. John Money, a psychologist (not a medical doctor) who twisted the tragic fate of a mutilated little boy to serve his own ends in the field of sexology (try not to snicker). Because of this mans ability to promote his own version of human sexuality, our society accepts a huge inverted pyramid of assumptions on gender and sex teetering on a base of lies. Colapinto carefully exposes those lies in this absolutely gripping narrative. And the story goes beyond the arcane into the issue of whether gender is simply a construct of nurture or deeply imbedded in each person.
