Helpful handcuffs

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Feb 08, 2005

Bronson Havard, the spokesman for the Dallas diocese, has an amazing resilience to embarrassment. That's just as well; it seems to be a job requirement.

So we're not surprised when, in response to the news that the district attorney is conducting a criminal investigation of the diocese, Havard tells the Dallas Morning News: "We welcome the DA's help."

His help, mind you.

And what will the DA "help" diocesan officials to do? He might escort them to jail-- which could certainly be a "help" for the Catholics of Dallas, but not for their diehard-loyal employees.

Wait! I remember! He's going to "help" with record-keeping, which has proved to be such a nuisance in other American dioceses.
