Ann-Under ordinary circumstances one would suspect it was some sort of Franciscan blessing of animals. But, as the responses show, with AmPope Roger I, you can just never tell or be too exaggerated in your guesses.

Shades of the old Flash Gordon series! His Eminence is looking a tad like "Ming the Merciless" with the flying cope. Remember? Those of you over 60? Could that be Dr Zarkov at his side? Dale (Theda Barra) is at the far left of those on stage. Happier days - - -

My guess it's a steer (for those unfamiliar of distinctions among farm animals, it's bull that's been castrated). A bull would have gone after the lady with the waving red dress.

Diogenes, please let us know when Cardinal Mahony and his USCCB Liturgy Chair Bishop Trautman will attempt to impose these and their other adaptations of Wiccan ceremonies upon the USCCB and the entire US. Jesus, help us, have mercy on us all.
