Secretary of State Colin Powell, appearing on the Charlie Rose show on July 19, made this boast about the achievements of the Bush administration:
Under this administration, we have tripled the purchase of condoms for distribution to underdeveloped countries.

Colin Powell wants very badly to please as many as possible. He has wisely supported the Kemp-Kasten Amendment against UNFPA's deplorable and coercive family planning tactics in China, but then he made a fool of himself on MTV. All he confirms here is his uncertainty...

Perhaps this is the Secretary of State's solution to the trafficing of predatory priests cross-border. The cowardly Bishops have a lot in common with the US State Department.

No, I am not proud. I am saddened by his appalling ignorance as to the effectiveness of condoms and the moral implications of their use. Margaret Comstock
